How to remove XP Internet Security 2012 – Fake Antivirus/Spyware Program
XP Internet Security 2012 is a fake anti spyware program also known as scamware or rogueware that is designed to make you pay for what you think is a piece of software that will rid your computer of viruses and spyware. Everytime you try and open up a program it will pop up a message saying XP Internet Security 2012 has blocked a program from accessing the internet. Then it will give you the options "yes, activate XP Internet Security 2012 (recommended) or No, Continue uprotected (dangerous). Do not click the activate and fill in any details. If you click no it will allow the program to run. Please see image below.
XP Internet Security 2012 Removal guide
The automatic removal of this fake program using 3rd party free software is as follows:
- Download and run Rkill. - this will stop the process.
- Download and install malwarebytes. - Run a full scan and let malwarebytes remove any infections.
If you have problems running the above programs. Please load the computer into safe mode by pressing F8 when the computer starts up or try a different user that has admin rights on the computer.
XP
The executable this program is know to run under can be found c:\documents and settings\ <username>\local settings\application data\<random chars>.exe
It also adds a registry entry in the following location to allow it to load : :
HKey Local machine\Software\clients\startmenu internet\explore.exe\shell\open\command\<random characters>.exe
It also adds various other registry keys that will need to be removed. Running malwarebytes above will clean these entries. When i removed this program the program called itself kil.exe
